SEO Dictionary

This post will be updated regularly with new terms. So do follow..

After all these years of my experience in the field of Digital Marketing, I came with many words and thought of composing them at a single place easy to access not just for me but for many like you.

These SEO words are from basic to advanced level and they are heard most regularly in your daily marketing routine.
And make sure to come back regularly as this most unlike few others is regularly updated to keep any new wordings that I come across. I'll try to give the best and easy meaning possible, so as to make it easy for you to understand.

Above the Fold:

As the phrase itself says it means, the portion that appears in the top of a page before you scroll down any further whether its an email or a newspaper or a website or simply the part of the site that you see immediately after opening a web URL.
Google strongly penalizes sites that use too many ads in this area.
Absolute Link:
Any link that appears in complete without any truncates or relative link paths is an Absolute link.

Example of Relative link: ..../blogging-ideas-that-are-definitely-win.html
Activity Bias:
It is that practice or any action involved in ad targeting on the most relevant and engaging group, importantly by ad re-targeting techniques.
Ad retargeting:
Its similar to regular digital advertising whereas the target audience in this type are those consumers chosen depending on their previous internet activities or actions.
Adwords:
Adwords is Googles advertising service to assist business for advertising online. Via Google Adwords business can advertise on Google and its linked advertising networks.
Affiliate Marketing:
Affiliate marketing is a kind of marketing that turn more results. This marketing program allows merchants/suppliers/owners etc expand their market presence by paying individual agents registered based cost per action taken.
Here are a few top affiliate marketing networks:
Commission Junction - probably the largest affiliate network
Linkshare - another large affiliate network
Performics - another large affiliate network
Azoogle Ads - ad offer network focused on high margin / high profit verticals
CPA Empire - similar to AzoogleAds
Amazon Associates - Amazon's affiliate program
Clickbank - an affiliate network for selling electronic products and information
Age:
Age when looked from SEO perspective is used to measure the trust worthiness of any site. Many social networks and search engines look at a sites or pages or account age for the same purpose.
Ajax:
It is with this Asynchronous JavaScript and XML technique that gives access to webpages to ask the server for additional data or information without further loading any new page.
Example: Pop-ups that you see in some sites that ask for information from user are created using AJAX.
Alexa:
Alexa is Amazons search service website using which we can estimate the traffic of any website.
AllTheWeb:
It is Yahoos purchased search engine which Yahoo uses to test any new technologies or features.
Alt Attribute:
Alt attribute is used as an alternate name to images that describes what the image is about. This helps many search engines and even blind people who cant read what is in the image.
Analytics:
It is all about the tracking of users and their actions on the website or app like page views, conversions, retendancy, user paths etc. Its very important to understand any website or app traffic to reap best advantages.

Anchor Text:
Similar to alt attribute for images, Anchor text is for links. Or in simple words, its the text that a user clicks to follow a link.
API
API is acronym for Application Program Interface which is a series of conventions or routines used to access software functions. Most major search products have an API program.
Arbitrage:
Many shopping search engines use arbitrage to get more traffic which is to take the advantage of market inefficiencies by purchasing and selling them again with a profit.
Authority:
Authority is a metric that shows the ability of a site or a web page to rank better in the search engines. The five main factors that are considered in calculating the authority are  link equity, site age, traffic trends, site history, and publishing unique original quality content.
Automated Bid Management Software:
With the increase in the complexity of the offerings of the Pay Per Click search engines, these softwares are created by the search engines and 3rd party developers to get on with the complexity in managing these offerings.

Backlink:

Backlink is a link referred to the website or web page or directory from other website or web page or directory. Backlinks properly developed ads good value to the site and even boosts the sites rank and traffic.
Bait and Switch:
This is a very usual technique followed by many merchants to attract customers. As the phrase itself says, customers are first baited in many possible means and then after vising the site the offer or attraction used by merchant will be switched. For example, you visit an offer(bait created by merchant) online and visit the website or store upon which the merchant either removes the offer or modifies it and tricks you in a way to make a conversion.
